The End: A Bucket List

Movies to Watch Before Death
Wait Until Dark (1967)
Stars: Aubrey Hepburn, Alan Arkin
1. Suspense within one room. You know the men are there. This is one of the longest times the audience has known more than the protagonist. It’s rare. You just want to blurt it out. They’re right there!
2. Death is imminent and a real threat. You know Roat isn’t fooling when you see Lisa in the body bag.
3. Can she survive? Does she have the will power to live? Could this happen to me? This movie provokes so many questions. It’s also very rare for a movie to question your own situation and your capacity to live and capacity to see if you’re being scammed.

Dial M for Murder
Blackmail for Murder. what could go wrong?
the Cat and Mouse game. Watching Tony try to fix his misdeeds. Watching Mark try to solve murder.
Watch how such a basic script can move you. Watch how a limited budget and a great screenplay can make such a dramatic effect. You don’t need Michael Bay explosions to be awed.

Crawlspace
Why is it bucket-worthy?
Klaus Kinski. Klaus is one of my favorite actors because he’s mad. He’s bat-shit insane in this one and he looks crazy.
The Horror! Oh the Horror! You don’t need lots of blood and a mysterious whodunit for a Horror to be appalling.
Claustraphobia. As it’s all set in the apartment building, this film is very claustrophobic (no pun intended). I love when a movie minimizes budget and uses character rather than location to evoke emotion. I especially love when it has the feel of a play. It could be a play, a rather horrifying one.

Act of Violence
Redemption. What constitutes redemption? What does it take to achieve that? Are there actions you wish to be irrevocable that cannot be forgiven no matter how much you try?
Humanity. Act of Violence presents humanity in it’s truest form. No one character is 100% flat. Everyone has a flaw.
Tension. Tension. Tension.

Moon (2009)
Stars Sam Rockwell, Kevin Spacey.
Storytelling. Scorsese likes to start movies in the middle of the action and shift from left to right, past to future. Duncan Jones makes you question whether it is the end or just the beginning. or are we in the middle of the action.
Acting. Sam Rockwell plays a man trying to go home and avoid cabin fever. His portrayal is confusing and saddening.
Themes and Issues. Like a good short story, this movie has defined themes and conflicts.

I wanted to make something out of my 365 movies in 365 days project (via helloprettypretty.tumblr.com). What I have come up with is a bucket list. This bucket list will include movies you should see before you die. and some things I have experienced that other should as well. Each post will include a description of why each item should be added to your bucket list.
